Constantine Will Blaze Hell Again

It looks like we will get a sequel or “reimagining” of Constantine sometime in the future, according to producer Lauren Shuler Donner, who was at the Saturn Awards and won the Producer’s Showcase Award. The original 2005 Constantine movie was based on the DC / Vertigo comic book Hellblazer and was directed by Francis Lawrence. The comic Hellblazer “is set in a contemporary world, albeit a world of magic and supernatural conflict behind the scenes. John Constantine, the main character of Hellblazer, is portrayed as a kind of confidence man who does morally questionable things, arguably for the greater good. He usually triumphs through guile, deceit, and misdirection, but often makes more enemies in the process than he defeats.” The movie version told the story of “irreverent supernatural detective John Constantine (Keanu Reeves), who has literally been to Hell and back. When Constantine teams up with skeptical policewoman Angela Dodson (Rachel Weisz) to solve the mysterious suicide of her twin sister (also played by Weisz), their investigation takes them through the world of demons and angels that exists just beneath the landscape of contemporary Los Angeles. Caught in a catastrophic series of otherworldy events, the two become inextricably involved and seek to find their own peace at whatever cost.” Bloody Disgusting got a very quick second to ask the legendary producer “will Constantine 2 ever move forward?” After the jump, you can check out what she had to say.

Malcolm McDowell Is The DEVIL!

Iconic actor Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, Rob Zombie’s Halloween 1 & 2, Star Trek: Generations) spoke with horror site Bloody Disgusting at the Saturn Awards about his role as Satan in the upcoming indie horror / comedy Suing the Devil. McDowell spoke to them about where his inspiration to play Lucifer came from and his perspective on the film and characters. The film was made by a Christian company called Mouthwatering Productions and is written and directed by Timothy A. Chey. It also stars Bart Bronson, Corbin Bernsen, Tom Sizemore, and Rebecca St. James. Interview W/ Fallen & Remy Chandler Author Tom Sniegoski

With The Fallen movies finally being released on DVD and a new Remy Chandler book (Where Angels Fear To Tread) hitting bookshelves not long ago, I thought it would be kind of cool to track down author Thomas E. Sniegoski about his creations. As many of you know, Sniegoski has also worked on Hellboy comics, a Buffy the Vampire Slayer novel, an Angel novel, and his own young adult series entitled The Sleeper Conspiracy. We connected and he shared with me his thoughts on the Fallen movies, what to expect from Remy Chandler in the future, and what else he has up his sleeve and coming up. Reflecting Upon Masters And Slayers

Fantasy author Bryan Davis’s new book entitled Masters and Slayers is the first book in his Reflections of Starlight series. The book will be hitting store shelves on September 13th through Living Ink. In the book, “the dragons of Starlight have been enslaving humans for over a century. At long last, warrior Adrian Masters and sword maiden Marcelle vow to find the mysterious portal where the Lost Ones disappeared—and save the slaves. First Official Priest Image

The first official image of Paul Bettany as Priest has hit the net. It originally was released through Entertainment Weekly, but then the resourceful fellows over at Bloody Disgusting got a hi-res copy of it to post on their site. I wonder what that freaky pale bald dude is pointing at? Whatever it is, it can’t be good from the look on Priest’s face. Priest is being converted to 3-D right now and is scheduled for release on May 13th, 2011. The movie is directed by Scott Charles Stewart (Legion) and “is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampire and follows a warrior priest who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece.” After the jump, you can see the whole picture and get more info on the movie and comic.

Exorcist Blu-ray Will Be A Halloween Treat

The Exorcist is FINALLY being released on Hi-Def Blu-ray through Warner Bros Home Video just in time for Halloween on October 5th.
According to fansite CaptainHowdy.com, “the two-disc Digibook edition will be packaged with a personal letter written by director William Friedkin inside a 40-page booklet and contain both The Version You’ve Never Seen (2000) and the original 1973 theatrical cut versions of the film. Thankfully, the 1973 theatrical cut has been remastered from the original camera negative.” Earlier in the year, Warner Bros pulled out all remaining copies of The Exorcist on DVD from stores, hoping that it will help boost sales of the Blu-ray edition when it’s released. This certainly does appear to be THE Ultimate Edition of The Exorcist. After the jump, you can check out a picture of the set and read all the specs, including special features and such.

The Wolf Opens The Gates Of Heaven

Book One of author C.S. Lakin’s The Gates of Heaven Series will be hitting shelves on August 13th. The novel is entitled The Wolf of Tebron and is being published through Living Ink. This looks to be Lakin’s first venture into the world of fantasy writing. I figured I should include this since it is considered a fantasy novel and has been called “a stirring allegory of God’s love in classic fairy tale tradition.” It seems a bit light to be covered on the same site as movies about demon possession and battling angels, but fair is fair. Thanks To House Screening Attendees!

Thanks to everyone who came out to the House Screening and Discussion on Saturday night. We had a small crowd, but it was perfect for a nice intimate discussion on the film and other topics that it took us to. Hope to see everyone again in August when I plan on doing another one. I’m thinking The Book of Eli or possibly The Visitation. Any comments on movie choices?

UPDATED! What Will Your Priest Think About The Last Exorcism?

UPDATED! We just added an excerpt and link to Dread Central’s review of The Last Exorcism toward the bottom of this post.

Both horror websites Bloody Disgusting and Dread Central tracked down director-turned-producer Eli Roth at the world premiere of The Last Exorcism that was hosted by the Los Angeles Film Festival and Screamfest LA. It was held at the Ford Theatre in Hollywood, CA and other members of the movie’s crew besides Roth that were in attendance included director Daniel Stamm, producers Eric Newman and Marc Abraham, composer Nathan (True Blood) Barr and cast-members Patrick Fabian, Ashley Bell, Tony Bentley, Irs Bahr, Louis Herthum and Caleb Landry Jones (pictured above). Roth spoke a bit about the PG-13 rating, how the “religious right” are going to react to the film, and keeping the film from being looked as an Exorcist clone or rip-off. We also posted a bit of Bloody Disgusting’s review of the film for you to peruse. You can read more of the interview and that after the jump.
