Being An Eye Witness To The Unknown God

The latest chapter in Robert James Luedke’s Eye Witness graphic novel series is hitting bookshelves on July 20th. The book is entitled Unknown God and is the fourth in the series coming out through Head Press Publishing. It tells the story of “forensic Archeologist, Dr. Terry Harper, (who) it appear(s)has safely made it back to U.S. soil, (until) he’s assassinated by a sniper’s bullet. Meanwhile, back in the first century, the Apostle Paul has been stoned to death in the village of Lystra. It appears the tale of the eyewitness has finally come to an end…if not for the power and mystery of The Unknown God.” The book mixes the elements of a political thriller, adventure, Bible epic, and the supernatural very well. I interviewed Luedke back at Wizard World Con in Dallas, TX and he seemed like a genuinely cool guy. The artwork in the book is also top-notch and definitely in the classic style of Jack Kirby and the likes. After the jump, you can check out my interview with him and more info on Unknown God and the author.

Synopsis:
In this fourth and final book of the Award-Winning Eye Witness graphic novel series, Harper’s allies make one final attempt to reveal to the world the existence of the Gospel of Joseph of Arimathea, while Harper himself become an unwitting witness to the first century trial of the Apostle Paul by the Roman Senate.

Unknown God takes the reader through a full color, fully illustrated roller-coaster ride that features the intertwining of a modern day action-thriller with an unprecedented adaptation of the Book of Acts. In this final volume of the Eye Witness series, both Dr. Harper and the reader will finally learn the reason why he’s been chosen to become a modern day eyewitness to events that occurred 2,000 years in the past.

This is not your parents Biblical-Comic adaptation! Suitable for readers aged teen and up.

Author’s Bio:
In December of 2001, Robert James Luedke set out to answer what he felt was a divine calling to re-enter the comic industry (after a three year absence) and create a graphic novel that would share the Gospel and honor God’s Kingdom. Since that time he has dedicated his life to creating and publishing the Award-Winning Eye Witness graphic novel series.

Robert’s inspiration to craft Eye Witness’ unique adaptation of the passion story and Book of Acts, paired along with a modern-day action adventure story, has brought the Biblical narrative into the hand of thousands of readers of comics, manga and graphic novels, who might never had an interest in reading the Bible before!

Until recently the comic/graphic novel industry has largely been devoid of works with Christian content. Partly through Robert’s efforts to promote Eye Witness, the genre of Christian based comic books and graphic novels is beginning to blossom. Not only are other independent writers and artists using the literary format to express their faith, but also major publishers, (like Thomas Nelson and Zondervon), have also launched entire lines of titles to address this growing market.

Both Robert and his Eye Witness Series, have been featured in such diverse media outlets as: Fox News, the L.A Times, The Washington Post, Family Net TV, CBS news, ABC news, The Harvest Show, The Christian Examiner, Christianity Today, Publishers Weekly, Wizard Magazine, Comic Buyers Guide, World Magazine and the USA radio network.

He has been labeled, “One of the leading lights in evangelical comic circles,” by religious writer, David Crumm, (Detroit Free Press & Readthespirit.com). And it seems the world is beginning to take note! The second book in the series, (Acts of the Spirit), was a winner at the 2007 Hollywood Book Festival (in the category of comics), took a silver medal at the 2007 Independent Publisher Awards and was a finalist in the 2007 FOREWORD Magazine book of the year awards. The third book in the series (Rise of the Apostle) was the winning graphic novel in the 2008 USA Book News, Book of the Year Awards and also a finalist for the 2009 FOREWORD Magazine Book of the Year Awards.

Robert’s goal for this four book series is to create something that would appeal to who “he was” as a teen…a skeptic who didn’t attend church or ever read the Bible, but loved reading comics. According to Robert, “I try to keep a balance between entertainment and enlightenment. If reading my books can lead even a handful of young people to want to pick up the source material, (the Bible), than I’ve been successful in my mission with the series!” And apparently he is, as pastor/author Michael Brewer wrote, “Eye Witness will connect with kids who wouldn’t be caught dead reading the Bible!”
